Why is this photo not an accurate portrayal of success and failure for entrepreneurs?

Michael Jordan has famously said that: “I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”

In this quotation, Jordan connects success to failure. For him, success is only possible due to the failure he has experienced and not given up. He kept trying and trying again until he succeeded.

Jordan’s insight is also true of entrepreneurs or an entrepreneurial worldview: entrepreneurs are willing to fail in order to succeed.

Taking Action in the World: Just Do It

To be an entrepreneur, you have to be willing to take action.

Do you remember the Nike “Just do it” ad campaign in the 1990s? This advertising campaign was so successful that it made Nike into a recession proof brand.

Apparently, that slogan was not only great for transforming Nike’s bottom line, it also accurately describes what it takes to be an entrepreneur. Being an entrepreneur means that you have to, in the words of Nike, just do it.

Given that the vast majority of classes on entrepreneurship at the college or university level are housed in business or engineering departments, I wondered what does this say about people who study the humanities & arts (as well as the social sciences).

Is it that the kind of person who studies business and engineering is also more likely to become an entrepreneur?
